Speedmaster Watch received by OMEGA

Speedmaster Watch has been acquired by the OMEGA Museum, once owned by the famous American novelist Ralph Ellison. After the Phillips auction in New York, this unique timepiece will return to where it came from – Biel, Switzerland, to be displayed in a museum.

Ralph Ellison is known for his exceptional novel – Invisible Man. The novel’s story marks the social and intellectual matters faced by African Americans at the beginning of the 20th century. This superior novel won Ellison the National Book Award For Fiction in 1953, making him the first African American writer to win this prize. Ellison was known to wear the timepiece for more than 25 years until his death in 1994. Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA is honoured to bring Ellison’s watch back to OMEGA Museum.

The OMEGA Museum in Switzerland conceals the brand’s iconic heritage since 1848. The excellent showcases and displays give visitors a look into the brand’s heart and passion, featuring anything from a space mission to ocean free diving. Among those timepieces can be found those worn by former US president J. F. Kennedy, astronaut Gene Cernan and world-known agent James Bond.
